Summer Collection 2017 Violet Swimsuit

Hi sewing friends!!  Are y’all in love with the new Summer Collection as much as I am?  I don’t think there’s one I can’t live without but today I am focusing all of my love on the Violet Swimsuit.

Sunflower Seams

When Marisa first asked me to make and photograph the Violet suit, I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous.  I wasn’t sure how I felt about pictures of me in a swimsuit all over the internet but after making this suit I was completely in love.  The Violet Swimsuit is such a chic and flattering suit.

Sunflower Seams

The front neckline features a faux cross over with an optional ruffle add on makes it an ultra feminine swimsuit!  There are two options for the back neckline: high rise and low rise.  And lets not forget my favorite part of this swimsuit, the side cutouts.  The tutorial offers great instructions for cup insertion and a built in bra for the extra comfort.

Marisa has all the bases covered to make this a perfect fitting suit!  And she has been so generous to add a BONUS Isla Kimono Pattern.

Sunflower Seams

I’ve made many swimsuits but never for myself.  I have to blend almost everything I make for myself and the thought of blending sizes for a swimsuit just seemed like too much.  Marisa, however offers an extensive sizing section in the pattern to help you feel confident about your blending skills.

My measurements are all over the chart, cup size: A, chest: 34″, waist: 28″, hips: 38″.  I used the A cup pattern pieces for the built in bra and blended between an 8 and 10.  I also added 2″ to the length since I am 5’7″, which also made the side cutout larger.  I chose the low rise back neckline with no ruffle.

Sunflower Seams

I used this gorgeous Dusty Rose performance knit from LA Finch Fabrics.  This trendy dusty rose is a trending pantone color for 2017 and I think it worked perfectly for this suit!!  I love how buttery soft this 4-way nylon spandex is.

Sunflower Seams

If you haven’t been keeping up with the Summer Collection Blog Tour going on this week I definitely suggest tuning in.  There are some amazing bloggers sharing their makes.  Make sure you stop by Marisa’s Day One Round Up blog post to check out the schedule of bloggers.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to relax by the pool with no kids!!

xoxo,

Becca

Emmy and Charlotte Hack: The perfect swim set

www.sunflowerseams.com

This past weekend was Memorial Day weekend and we celebrated out on the boat all weekend long.  I wanted the kids to have cute swimsuits but still be protected from the hot summer sun.

My daughter doesn’t like wearing store bought rash guards, she thinks they are too tight around the neck and refuses to wear them so I decided I’d make her one myself.

www.sunflowerseams.com

I bought this adorable “One in a Melon” swim panel from Peekaboo Fabrics a while ago and it was perfect for this project.  The panel comes with all three fabrics I used, making it so easy to coordinate. The best part is the fabric is UV 50+ so I can feel confident they aren’t going to get burned.

www.sunflowerseams.com

I used the Emmy T-shirt pattern to make the perfect rash guard for her.  Because she doesn’t like them to be too tight, I made her a size 5. This is the normal size she wears so I was a little worried it would be too big as a rash guard but it worked out nicely.  The only modifications I made to the shirt was shortening it about 3/4″.

www.sunflowerseams.com

For the bottoms I used the Deluxe Charlotte Leggings pattern.  The deluxe version of Charlotte is amazing!!  It comes with leggings and sweatpants styles in boy short, short, knee, capri, and ankle lengths. There is also a pattern piece to add a cute little skirt onto the leggings. The waistband can be made with elastic or a fabric band in regular or yoga style.

www.sunflowerseams.com

I cut a size 4 in the boy shorts version and added the skirt.  Then I shortened the skirt 4″ in order to have it look more like swim bottoms.  Since I added the skirt, I used the banded waistband.

www.sunflowerseams.com

If you are anything like me then you probably already have these 2 patterns in your stash.  But if you don’t, then you can purchase them HERE.

I love how easily it is to make the perfect swim set using patterns I already had!!  www.sunflowerseams.com

Keep up to date with me behind the seams by following me on Instagram!

Happy Sewing!
